Townsend The Peaceful Side of the Smokies

Townsend is considered to be the the peaceful-side of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Townsend is located in Blount County and is a spectacular part of the region. With a population of less than 1,000, Townsend lives a little larger than its size. It is closest to one of the more popular sites in the Smokies, the Cades Cove Loop Road, so there is plenty of outside traffic for local businesses. The Smokies are the only admission-free national park in the United States. This, and its proximity to population makes it the most visited national park. But compared the bustle of amusements in Pigeon Forge, Townsend offers everything you can imagine for a quiet, natural environment that encourages quality family adventures and relaxation. It is quaint and reminiscent of times when families had summer camps in the mountains for recharging.
The Little River flows through the town and into the mountains and offers rafting, canoeing and fishing activities. The Townsend bike trail is a 5-mile loop through town that is perfect for cyclists, joggers and explorers.
For housing, Townsend has a little bit of everything. There are beautiful homes nestled in the mountains, traditional log cabins, turn-key second homes, and rental properties for the visitors to the area.
Townsend City Schools are part of the Blount County Schools District. With the majority of children attending Townsend Elementary and Heritage Middle and High Schools.
Come for a visit and you’ll want to search for a place to call home, Townsend makes you feel like you got away from the hustle and bustle of life.
